NOTES

Hot Summer Bites & Calm Gulf Waters – What’s Biting Around Dauphin Island This Week

Dauphin Island Bay - Mobile, AL

The summer bite is officially on around Dauphin Island, and anglers are seeing consistent action both inshore and offshore.

Inshore: Speckled trout are holding strong around the grass flats and deeper cuts, especially during early morning moving tides. Topwater lures and live shrimp under popping corks are working well. Redfish are cruising near oyster beds and around the mouths of creeks, with bull reds showing up in the passes on outgoing tides.

Nearshore: King Mackerel are pushing in close to the beach, and trolling live bait around the buoys has been producing solid results. Spanish Mackerel are also in the mix, making for fast-paced action just a few miles off the coast.

Offshore: Red Snapper season is open and firing on all cylinders. Boats heading 15–30 miles out are finding keeper-size Snapper over reefs and wrecks. Beeliner (Vermilion Snapper) and Scamp Grouper are also biting well on squid and cut bait dropped deep. For those going farther, Amberjack and Cobia are showing up near large structures, and Tuna reports have started coming in from boats making longer runs.

Shark action has been strong around shrimp boats and bait-rich zones. Expect Tiger and Bull Sharks in deeper water—heavy tackle recommended.

Weather & Conditions: Calm seas and steady temperatures in the low 80s have made for excellent conditions. Early morning starts are best to beat the heat and catch peak feeding times.

Tip of the Week: If you're targeting Snapper, focus on structure and don’t be afraid to fish a bit deeper as the day heats up. Circle hooks and a steady current drift can make all the difference.
